Opening Unheard Dialogues: An Art Experiment with Texts and Symbols
Decoding Wonders 2024 is a group exhibition held at THE TERMINAL KYOTO, a traditional Kyoto townhouse, featuring works by artists engaging with letters and symbols—Intext (Toyama Hiroshi, Mashimo Takehisa, Mimasu Yusuke), Yagi Lyota, and Hirota Midori, along with Kanazawa Kodama as a creative writer. Kanazawa contributed texts inspired by listening difficulties and dyslexia, which became the unifying theme throughout the exhibition. This project showcases Code-a-Machine’s endeavor to bring forth unheard voices and overlooked perspectives.

Through creative writing, Kanazawa Kodama, who usually works as a curator, wove together the works of three artists: Intext (Toyama Hiroshi, Mashimo Takehisa, Mimasu Yusuke), a unit of graphic designers and programmers reimagining the way we communicate; Hirota Midori, a sign maker known as Kantaro the 2nd, who explores the pictorial and spatial potentials of letters; and Yagi Lyota, who reinterprets human perceptions and mannerisms through sound, video, and installation. This project is an attempt to decode the innumerable ciphers—“the codes”—that surround us.
