横山はある日、竹工芸の美しさに魅せられてグラフィックデザイナーから竹を使う造形作家へと転身しました。アジア全域で長い間親しまれてきた竹工芸は、近年プラスチック製の容器などに取って替わられ、その技を受け継ぐ職人も減りつつありますが、彼は数少ない後継者の一人として、伝統の上に新境地を切り拓いています。

As one of the craft’s few successors, Yokoyama is breaking new ground in a genre with a long history of tradition.
