New Light Pottery, based in Nara, Japan, has created a glass lighting assembly for the 8th floor shelves of the Tokiwabashi Tower. The color variations reference the greens, reds, indigo, and light yellow of the Ukiyo-e woodblock prints that flourished during Japan's Edo and Meiji periods. Rather than using a single color, the artists layered several colors of glass to create intricate color variations in a single unit. These works, created in collaboration with glass artisans, represent a new era of change while inheriting traditional techniques.
