Suzuki Keita, a product designer, has collaborated with a lacquer technician to create a lacquer and silver leaf wall hanging. Its motif is the stone wall of Edo Castle, which was built around the same time as the Tokiwabashi bridge. The stone walls of Edo Castle bear many markings, demonstrating how the wall was constructed by many different people. Suzuki interpreted the stone wall as a product of different forces coming together: Just as a stone wall becomes covered with moss over time, the patterns of silver leaf and lacquer in his work also transform over time. His work is an expression of the efforts of our ancestors, traditional techniques, and a sense of fearlessness in face of change.
