The paintings of Wang Yi, one of China's notable young artists, are created by carefully applying layers of paint. Wang Yi continually recombines the essential elements of abstract painting-structure, form, color, and materials —to explore the shape of our current society, the development of our cities, and the relationship between history and nature. This new series symbolically represents the structure of our society, in which a city with a seemingly smooth surface is also a collection of various inhabitants.
