The work of Yokoyama Osamu fascinates us with its innovative shape, reminding us of the trajectory of a whirling airplane or an alien structure on another planet.
Following the path of the individual lines created by the bamboo strands with our eyes can make us feel incredibly free. Yokoyama became fascinated by the beauty of bamboo craftsmanship and decided to switch from being a graphic designer to a bamboo sculptor. Bamboo crafts have long been popular throughout Asia, but the number of craftsmen has been dwindling in recent years as the demand has been replaced by plastic and other synthetic materials. As one of the craft's few successors, Yokoyama is breaking new ground in a genre with a long history of tradition.
